What each is best for

Psychology Today

The largest therapist directory in the US. It ranks well in search for almost any "therapist near me" query, including searches that include "Jewish" or a language such as Hebrew or Yiddish. It is useful for reaching people outside the community and people who search by insurance. It does not distinguish a therapist who is frum from one who lists Jewish clients as a focus, so community clients have to read closely.

OKclarity

A paid directory built for the frum and Jewish community. It covers therapists and other wellness professionals, includes intro videos and a matching quiz, and has many city and category pages that rank for "frum therapist" searches in the larger communities. The subscription is the main cost to weigh.

Nefesh International

A professional association of Orthodox mental health professionals. Membership includes a conference, a listserv where members share referrals, and a member directory. The listserv and the conference are often worth more than the directory listing, because they connect you to colleagues who refer. Membership is for mental health professionals, so coaches and other wellness providers are not included.

Jewish Therapist Collective

A directory and professional group for Jewish therapists across denominations, with a category for Orthodox and frum clients. It is a good fit if you see clients across the Jewish community, not only frum clients.

FrumHealth.org

A directory for the frum community covering therapy, psychiatric care and wellness: coaching, nutrition, doulas and midwives, breathwork and more. Listing your practice is free. Each listing gets its own page, which people can find by city or by describing what they need, and a profile card you can share. Clients can message or video-call you from your page when you are online.

Premium adds pages and flyers for your groups and events, blog posts linked to your listing, and the Verified badge.

How to decide

  • Start where your clients look. If most of your referrals come from inside the community, a community directory and relationships with colleagues, schools and rabbanim will matter more than a general directory.
  • Count what one client is worth. At $30 to $60 a month, a paid listing pays for itself if it brings in one client a year. The question is whether it does. Ask new clients how they found you and track it.
  • Keep every listing current. Several listings with old availability or an old photo do more harm than one that is up to date.
  • Link your listings. Put your directory pages on your website, and your website on your directory pages.

Questions to ask any directory

  • Who reviews listings before they go live, and what do they check?
  • Can clients contact me directly, or does the directory route inquiries?
  • Can I cancel at any time, and does my page come down right away?
  • Does my page show up in Google searches for my name and my town?
  • Can I see how many people viewed my page or contacted me?
