How this works: while you're online, your profile shows at the top of the site as "available right now" and visitors can chat or call you — as long as this tab stays open. Close the tab and you go offline automatically. Chat is direct, browser-to-browser (p2p), so it only works while you're online. Notifications alert you to new chats and calls even when you're in another app.
